  Car General

Do I have to insure my car?

Yes, you are required by law to close minimum liability insurance as soon as the car is registered in your name.

Where can I find the terms & conditions of the insurance?

The terms & conditions of the insurance can be found on our website under "Details".

When do I have to insure my car?

You are legally required to take out car insurance as soon as the registration of the car is in your name; not just when you take the car on the road, as is often wrongly assumed.

A car that is still with the seller must be ensured from the moment it is registered in your name. This also applies to vehicles that are not used, but are registered in your name.

I don't have a driving license. Can I get a car insurance?

No. To insure a car, you must have a valid driving license.

Can I get a car insurance for my partner?

As a rule, only the registered owner of the car can apply for car insurance.

Can I get a car insurance for my child?

As a rule, only the registered owner of the car can apply for car insurance.

Is BSure required to approve my application?

No, we are not required to accept your application. If you knowingly give false information, for example when applying for your car insurance, we may reject your application and withdraw the coverage.

In the case of a misunderstanding there is a good chance that we can still insure your car. So please contact us, e.g. by phone at +599 715 5444 or through the contact form.

When can I cancel my car insurance with my current insurance provider?

You can cancel your insurance on three different instances.

1. On the main due date

This is the date the policy is renewed annually. This date is stated on your policy. You may cancel your insurance annually. Please be advised of the notice period which can be found in the policy's terms and conditions. In most cases, this period is two months.

2. In case of a premium increase or change in the terms

If the insurer increases the premium or adjusts the terms, you are allowed to cancel the insurance. Once the insurer has informed you of the changes, you have a fixed time window to cancel in writing. Please note that you cannot cancel if the premium increase is the result of an damage claim or a change in your specific situation. It must be an increase or change that applies to everyone who has an insurance policy with this specific insurer.

3. Sale of the car

If you are no longer the legal owner of the car, you may terminate your insurance. You must be able to prove with an indemnity certificate that the car is no longer registered in your name. Call our team at +599 715 5444 for more information.

How do I cancel my current car insurance?

When you take out new car insurance with us, we will help you to cancel with your current car insurer. You can enter the details of your current insurer after your application. We then enter those details in a letter of insurance cancellation which you can then print, sign and send to your current insurer.

How does the premium calculator work?

With our premium calculator you can quickly and easily calculate your premium by answering a couple of questions.

  Car coverage

What is provisional coverage?

Provisional coverage is temporary coverage for your car and allows you to use the car while your application is being processed. When you receive the insurance card, your application is completed.

How will I know that I am insured?

You will receive an email confirmation that your application has been approved.

Once you have received notification that your application has been approved, you can drive worry-free. You will receive your insurance card within a week.

How do I apply for  car insurance on your website?

It's simple. Fill in your details, choose your preferred car insurance and apply directly via the application form. We will then start processing your application.

How do I apply for coverage?

You can apply for car insurance online. In most cases, your car can be insured within a few minutes as your request is immediately assessed. You will hear right away from our staff whether your application has been approved, or if the application will first be reviewed by a BSure consultant. You will also receive a confirmation email.

What are the different types of coverage?

Third Party

Third party insurance provides the most limited coverage at the lowest premium. With a normal liability coverage, you only get reimbursed for the damage you cause with your car to (the property of) third parties; the damage to your own car will not be reimbursed. However, BSure’s Third party coverage also insures hit and run damage caused by another person whose identity cannot be ascertained.

Third party comprehensive

Third party comprehensive insurance is usually suitable for cars between five and seven years old. The Limited Casco insurance covers:

  • The damage you cause with your car to others (the mandatory liability coverage)
  • Damage to your vehicle caused by events such as fire and lightning, theft, joyriding and break-ins, collisions with stray animals or birds.

All Risk

All Risk insurance (also called Casco insurance) is usually the best choice for (relatively) new cars. The All Risk insurance covers all the items listed under Limited Casco as well as damage to your own car as a result of an incident in which you are at fault.

Need help choosing the right coverage? Use our Coverage Guide.

What do I insure with a Passenger Injury Insurance?

Accidents are not always limited to property damage. The driver and passengers may be injured, sometimes with major financial consequences.

A passenger accident insurance pays a percentage of the sum insured (up to a maximum as stated in the policy) in case of death or permanent disability. This insurance also pays out if the damage was caused by the insured or when the liability of the driver or counterparty cannot be determined and the damage is not recoverable.

The Passenger Injury Insurance is included in all our car products.

  Car Premium

Can I pay my premium in installments?

Yes. You can choose between annual or monthly payments.

When is the payment deadline?

The premium should be paid no later than 30 days after the premium due date. If you miss the payment, you are not insured. We advise you to always have sufficient funds in your account so we can collect on the date you specified.

What happens if I do not pay the premium on time?

If the premium for your car insurance is not or not fully paid, the coverage of your insurance is withdrawn and your car is not insured.

  Car Deductible

What is the deductible?

The deductible for your car insurance is the portion of the damage that you have to pay yourself. The deductible applies only to damage to your own car, not to damage you cause to others.

If someone else is responsible for damage to your car, and we collect the compensation from the guilty party, the damage does not count towards your deductible.

Third Party Extra

Your deductible is $0,- for third party damage.
Your deductible is $140,- for bodywork damage.

If the driver of the motor vehicle is under 23 or if the driver at the time of the collision is not listed on the policy schedule, an additional deductible of $195,- applies on top of the aforesaid deductible.
If you have held your driver's license for less than a year, an additional deductible of $84,- applies on top of the aforesaid deductible.

  Car Damage

Which damage is exactly covered by my insurance?

The types of damages insured depends on the coverage you choose:

Third party

Only damage caused with your vehicle to another  party.

Third party comprehensive

Damage caused with your vehicle, but also damage to your own vehicle from causes specified in the conditions of the policy. The most important are: theft, break-in, fire, window damage, storm damage and collision with animals. Not covered are damages caused by your fault, like not giving right of way, driving against a post, etc.

All Risk

Damage you cause with your vehicle to others as well as damage to your own vehicle, including own-fault accidents (single-vehicle accidents, not giving right of way, etc.)

Can I settle a damage case on my own account to preserve my no-claim bonus?

Yes. We do advise you however not to settle the claim directly with the other party but to have us mediate. After we paid the counterparty, you have one year to pay the settlement on your own account to preserve your no-claim discount.

In what cases does a claim affect my no-claim discount?

A claim affects your discount when we have to pay damages that we cannot recover from the counterparty.  (Your no-claim discount will be adjusted after settlement of the claim). There are no consequences for the bonus discount if the damage is covered under the Third party comprehensive  insurance (e.g. theft or glass breakage).

What should I do in case of theft or break-in damage?

  1. Report the incident as soon as possible to the police and ask for a copy of the report.
  2. Report the damage as soon as possible to BSure.
  3. Block stolen bank cards, credit cards and cell phones immediately.

You can claim stolen clothes and luggage on your home insurance

What should I do in case of parking damage by an unknown perpetrator?

  1. Report the damage to the police as soon as possible.
  2. Let the police assess the damage to determine whether the accident was caused by a motor vehicle.
  3. If possible, record names and addresses of persons who can testify your car was undamaged when you parked it and damaged when you came back.
  4. Contact BSure.

What should I do if I am responsible for the accident?

We review your completed claim form and determine your liability.

How do I hold someone else liable?

If someone else has caused damage to your car, you can hold this person liable through your insurance. To assess the liability we need at least the following:

  • The name and address of potential witnesses, including occupants of your vehicle at the time of the incident.
  • Possible evidence, such as pictures.
  • Any correspondence you may receive from the counterparty.
  • The report to the police or a copy of the official police report.

Must I always report a damage case?

Yes, you should always report damage.

Within what time must I report a claim?

The sooner you report the damage, the faster the processing can start and repairs of the car can begin. In any case, we need to be informed no later than three days after the collision or accident.

How can I report a damage case?

Reporting damage can initially be done by telephone, but you should always fill out a claim form as well (available on request from our claims department on +599 715 5444 / claims@bsurebonaire.com.

  Car Damage-free years

Where can I find information about the structure of the bonus / malus system?

The exact composition of the bonus / malus system can be found in the policy conditions of your insurance. Here, you can also find how many steps you fall back in the system when making a claim.

What are accident-free years?

Accident-free years are the number of years during which you are insured but do not have an accident or make a claim. For each year that you drive without an accident, you earn a claim-free year in the so-called bonus / malus system, increasing the no-claim discount on your premium.

When you claim damages for an accident you caused, you will fall back in the bonus / malus system. A negative number of accident-free years can result in an additional fee (of up to 20%) on your premium.

I have caused damages. How will it affect my no-claim bonus when I make a claim with BSure?

The policy’s terms and conditions specify you how many steps you fall back in the bonus system as well as the discount that comes with each step.

Our claims department can calculate for you whether or not it is advantageous for you to claim the damages.

I have driven my parents’ car without accident for a number of years. Do these years count towards my claim-free years?

No, they count towards your parent’s claim-free years. You can only earn claim-free years when the insurance is in your name.  The only exception is when you are specified as a regular driver in the policy contract.

Can I use my claim-free years for a second (family) car?

The claim-free years you saved only apply to your first car and are not valid for the insurance of your second car since – in general - another person will be the regular driver of the other car.

How can I prove I have claim-free years?

A no-claim certificate is proof of your accrued claim-free years. You will get this certificate from your insurance company once you cancel your insurance.

What is a no-claim certificate?

A no-claim certificate states the number of claim-free years you have accrued. You get this certificate from your insurer after you cancel your insurance. The certificate is valid for one year from the issue date, after which the claim-free years become void.

What is a bonus / malus system and how does it work?

With the bonus / malus system, the insurer determines how much discount (or surcharge) will apply to the basic premium for your insurance. During the time you are insured, you accrue claim-free years for the subsequent years you drive without making an insurance claim. Based on the number of claim-free years, the insurer awards you a discount on your premium, the so-called no-claim discount. The higher you are in the bonus / malus system, the higher your discount is. The discount can grow up to 80% on the basic premium.

Must I submit a no-claim certificate?

Yes. Present your no-claim certificate within two months after applying for a car insurance to be eligible for a no-claim discount.

  Resedential General

Am I required to take out a home contents or home insurance?

No. You are not legally required to insure your house. When taking out a mortgage however, the bank (that takes your house as collateral) is likely to require you to take out home insurance.

Where can I find the conditions of the home and home contents insurance?

You can find the conditions of the insurance under “Details” on our website.

Can I cancel my insurance when I move to a new address?

Yes and no. If you move to a new address then you will no longer need home insurance on the old address and you may cancel your home insurance.

Home contents however, move with you to the new address and still need to be insured.

Please note that you need to have the address on the policy changed for the contents to remain insured. If your home contents are temporarily divided between two addresses, we recommend you to let us know.

Should my house and house contents both be insured with the same insurance company?

Not as a rule, but it is recommended to insure your home and contents with the same insurer in order to make any settlements in case of a claim go as smoothly as possible.

With BSure, insurance of your home contents (to a maximum insured amount) is included free of charge in your home insurance.

I rent a house to which I made improvements. How can I insure these?

You can insure improvements that you make to a rented house and that you pay for (a new kitchen, bathroom, sunscreen etc.) as Tenant Improvements. Details can be found in the policy conditions.

Why is the foundation of the house insured?

If a house burns down completely or if an explosion occurs, the foundation will also be damaged and will therefore need to be rebuilt.

Are outbuildings automatically insured in a home insurance?

If you have indicated on the application that you have outbuildings that need to be insured, they are included in the insured amount.

What is covered by the home contents insurance and what is covered by the home insurance?

To determine this, use this simple rule: everything immovably attached to the house is covered by the house insurance; everything else by the home contents insurance. For example, a click-laminate floor falls under home contents insurance, yet a glued wooden floor under home insurance.

What is the duration of my insurance?

BSure offers home insurance standard on a one-year contract that will be renewed annually.

What is the notice period?

You can cancel you insurance from the day it is renewed.

When switching to BSure, please note that you probably have to observe a notice period (usually of two months prior to the main termination date) with your current insurer. You can find the exact notice period in the terms and conditions of your current insurance.

  Residential Changes

I moved. How do I inform BSure of my new address?

You can send your new address using the contact form on our site.

How do I adjust the insured sum of my insurance?

If you want to adjust the insured sum, please contact our customer service at +599 715 5444 or through the contact form on our site.

  Residential / Contents Coverage

How can I apply for an insurance?

You can apply for a house or contents insurance online. In most cases, you will be insured within a few minutes as your request is assessed immediately. You will hear right away from our staff whether your application has been approved or if the application will first be reviewed by a BSure consultant. You will also receive a confirmation email.

For what kind of damage does BSure home insurance offer coverage?

BSure offers extensive and comprehensive coverage against damage caused by

  • Fire
  • Explosion
  • Lightning/induction
  • Natural causes
  • Water and steam
  • Violence
  • Collision
  • Trees and branches
  • Pile drivers and cranes
  • Aircraft, spacecraft and meteorites
  • Glass

What else is insured in the home insurance?

The insurance has a standard supplemental coverage for costs associated with the settlement of claims. These costs are paid in addition to the insured sum. Examples are costs associated with

  • The garden
  • The pool
  • Temporary housing
  • Legal liability
  • Water damage
  • Hired expertise
  • Clean-up work
  • Salvage work
  • Security services
  • First aid and trauma care after a fire or robbery
  • Loss of rent

What else is insured by the home contents insurance?

The contents insurance is a supplemental coverage for costs associated with the settlement of the claims. These costs are paid in addition to the insured sum. Examples are items and costs such as:

  • Freezers and refrigerators
  • Luggage
  • Water damage
  • Moisture damage
  • Damage control
  • Hired expertise
  • Emergency care
  • Clean-up costs
  • Salvage Costs
  • Security services
  • First aid and trauma care after a  robbery
  • Tenant’s / owner’s improvements
  • Legal liability
  • Barns, sheds, garages, common areas, other buildings and outdoor spaces belonging to the insured address.
  • Temporary storage of the contents

How do I determine the rebuild value?

Your house is insured for the rebuild value. This is the amount needed to rebuild your home in the same place, with the same size and for the same purpose.

Sometimes you will need to calculate the rebuild value yourself. For a newly built house, the rebuild value is the purchase value with the added cost of - for example - an upgraded bathroom or kitchen. The value of the land is not included. For an existing home, you can determine the rebuild value through a recent (less than 3 years old) valuation of a certified appraiser or real estate agent.

Is the rebuild value the same as the purchase value?

No, this is not the same. The rebuild value is the amount needed to rebuild your home on the same location, with the same size and for the same purpose. The purchase price is the value of the house, including the land on which it stands.

  Residential / Contents Premium

Can I pay for my insurance premium in installments?

Yes. You can choose between annual or monthly payments.

What is the payment deadline?

The premium should be paid no later than 30 days after the premium due date. If you miss the payment, you are not insured. We advise you to always have sufficient funds in your account so we can collect on the date you specified.

What happens if I do not pay the premium on time?

If the premium for your insurance is not or not fully paid, the coverage of your insurance is withdrawn and your house and / or contents are not insured.

  Residential / Contents Damage

How do I know if a certain type of damage falls under ‘house’ or ‘contents’?

To determine this, use this simple rule: everything immovably attached to the house is covered by the house insurance; everything else by the home contents insurance. For example, a click-laminate floor falls under home contents insurance, yet a glued wooden floor under home insurance.

Do you rent your house or an apartment? Then a portion of the house may be insured on your contents insurance as Tenant Improvements. These are changes or improvements to the kitchen or bathroom you made on your own behalf. You can claim damages to Tenant Improvements on your contents insurance for up to 10% of the insured amount. Other damages to the house should be claimed from the landlord.

What types of damage can I claim?

BSure provides coverage for damage resulting from fire, scorching, burglary and water amongst others. For a complete overview of the coverage, consult your policy.

Can I have the damage repaired immediately?

Not always. Please check with BSure first.

Are urgent repairs critical to prevent more damage? Then you can have the repairs done immediately after you have informed us of the damage. Is there no immediate need for repair? In that we usually will want to examine the damage first.

Do I have to pay for repairs myself before BSure reimburses me?

Yes, normally you do. You then send the bill to us. If the damages are covered under your insurance, we will credit your account.

What to do after a burglary?

  1. First contact the police for the official investigation. Then report to the police station to give an account of what exactly happened and what items were damaged or stolen.

When you later find that more items were stolen or damaged, you can file an additional report. The police will give you copy of each report.

  2. Report the damage as soon as possible to BSure. We will send you a claim form.

  3. Fill out the form, sign it and send it to us with the purchase invoices. We make sure that your claim is processed as soon as possible.

When will an expert be called upon to assess the damage?

This depends on the nature and extent of the damage.

As a general rule, with damages of over Naf 1500.- an expert will be called upon. Smaller claims are usually settled with repair and purchase invoices. Of course, we reserve the right to also send an expert for smaller claims. In addition to assessing the extent of damages, an expert also determines the cause of them.

Which amount of damage should I report for contents?

Basically, you are insured for the replacement value. You therefore claim the current replacement value if an item has been lost or destroyed entirely. If repair is possible, you will be reimbursed for the repair costs, often supplemented by an additional compensation for the loss of value of the item(s).

What to do in case of fire damage?

First contact BSure to request a claim form. Fill it out, sign it and return it with all relevant documentation such as purchase receipts. We will process the claim as soon as possible. We may send an inspector to assess the damage, so it is important that you do not discard the damaged items right away.

Please contact us in case of permanent damage. We will send you a claim form.  Fill it out, sign it and return it with all relevant documentation such as purchase receipts. We will process the claim as soon as possible. We may send an inspector to assess the damage, so it is important that you do not discard the damaged items right away.
